Design Diary 2: The Spellist

Hello! It’s May already?? Damn time flies! I have been hard at work with life and the projects I talked about in the 2023 update. I am hoping to get one of the two OSR classes out by June. It will be The Grenadier, as I have the art and general class design done and just need to do layout. The meat of this blog post is spells for Project 3d6 Fantasy!

In the middle of January I decided to start a Cyberpunk 2020 campaign with one of my gaming groups. We had previously played Cyberpunk Red and had a fun time but I wanted to try out the grittier and deadlier 2020. I also like the Retrofuturism of 2020 more than the too clean scifi kind of look that Red has. As usual, all DTRPG links are affiliates and I hope you enjoy!

Gameplay changes This is the important/fun bits so I will start off with them. Saves Initially I wanted an ad-hoc save system for 3d6 Fantasy. It used Save vs Traps, Save vs Magic and Save vs Death with no attribute modifiers and each class had it’s own Save number and got bonuses depending on the class.

Welcome to another adventure of Judge Havel! This is a solo series where we play as a judge in the Redd Judge system by my friend Felbrigg. We’re also going to be using the Scarlet Heroes general oracle. All text in [brackets] will be game mechanics related. “Control this is Havel. Responding to the code: 130 on Okaley Parker Block.” Havel’s comms cut out, the roar of his bike replacing it in his ears.

I actually did the voice for Havel in a short promoting the game and thought it would be fun to see how that crime actually went. We’re also going to be using the Scarlet Heroes general oracle. All text in [brackets] will be game mechanics related. Judge Havel checks his bike feed for any nearby crim’s to deal with.

Play Report: The Lost Dwarves

Time for a play report! I read this and put it out as a podcast first, so if you’d rather hear my voice recount this tale you can do so on Odysee or Youtube. Thanks for reading, listening, or however you want to consume what I put out. You can download this adventure, map and all from here. You can watch me make this adventure on Odysee or Youtube. I am hoping this will assist newer dms in showing them how I improvised scenarios that the adventure didn’t cover, and how I implemented ideas that came to me as I ran it.
